In alluvial soil among rocks on W-facing creek bank in mixed riparian/chaparral community.
Plants perennial from widely-creeping rhizomes; aerial stems dimorphic, the fertile stems non-chlorophyllous; sheath teeth of stems >14, persistent, brown with poorly differentiated margins, separate or irregularly coherent distally; first internode of branches shorter than subtending stem sheath; branches with 4 to 5 ridges & valleys, the former grooved and roughened-tuberculate; branch sheath teeth long attenuate.
