Young second growth upper-montane conifer forest with shady mossy understory and north-facing open brushy-mossy road bank, with Vaccinium sp., Lycopodium alpinum, L. alpinum X sitchense, L. sitchense, L. complanatum, L. annotinum, L. clavatum.

Fairly common along road bank in mossy shady soil; in loose mats, fertile; intermixed with fertile L. alpinum (Legler 2956) and L. sitchense (Legler 2958) but no evidence of hybridization with either.
